Surface Halftone was created in 2012 by Stuart McMorris as an outlet and playground for design exploration away from the digital design and marketing he was involved in day to-day.
Recent work incorporates simple geometrics loosely based on landscapes using Google Maps to help build the visual story. Simple repeats, bright colour palettes and stripes make up the core building blocks. Most of the paper outputs are a mix of digital or screen print and use premium German paper on high end inkjet printers, all produced at Edinburgh Printmakers. He has had a number of commissions from the UK and Australia to date.
Born in Scotland, Stuart achieved a BA Hons design in Textile Design, specialising in screen printing, at the Scottish College of Textiles.
Graduating in 2000, he won the prestigious New Designers Award for his hand screen printed collection of interior fabrics based on industrial containers. His pieces toured Europe for six months, spending time in a number of design exhibitions.
